5 Signs you Need A New Roof

Your roof protects one of your biggest investments – your home. Suspect you might need a new roof? Not sure what to look for? Here are 5 signs you need a new roof.

1.) Roof Age

How old was your roof when you moved in?

Is the last time you replaced the roof over a decade ago?

The age of your roof is a determining factor in whether or not it should be replaced. Due to Colorado’s range of extreme weather, your roof may age faster than it would if it were in a more neutral climate.

Asphalt Composite Shingles can last for years, but if your roof is exposed to the hot sun (East/West facing), and has endured storm damage, it may be time to consider retiring your existing roof.

2.) Missing Shingles

Shingles are your roof’s first line of defense. When shingles are missing, it leaves your roof, attic, and home susceptible to water damage.

You may notice missing shingles after a turbulent rainstorm, heavy hail, or when high winds blow through the Front Range. If you notice missing shingles, call a roofing professional immediately for an assessment; taking immediate action will help us to prevent extensive damage.

3.) Curling Shingles

Curling shingles are more subtle but should be treated with the same diligence and urgency as missing shingles.

To detect curling, look at your roof from a perpendicular angle. If you notice even slight curls or observe that shingles look uneven, these could be signs that you need a new roof.

4.) Roof Valleys or Dents

Is your roof dipping in certain areas? Do these slight valleys hold water? Do your shingles appear dented?

There are many factors that can lead to roof valleys and dents. From hail to debris or even faulty drainage, you want to avoid these roofing issues before they lead to a catastrophe.

5.) Water Damage

If your attic has experienced more than one leak in the last few months, this could be a sign of water damage. While it isn’t always due to your roof, it certainly can be.

Water damage isn’t something that any homeowner wants to deal with (or pay for).

If you notice leaks, always call your local roofing professionals.
