Don’t get stuck with shoddy work and a bad roofing contractor that costs you time, money, and the potential to damage your home! While we would love for everyone to hire Columbine Roofing LLC for all of their Denver roofing contractor needs, we also encourage homeowners and commercial building owners to do their due diligence so they can be happy with their choice of roofer. Here is a checklist so that you can make sure that you vet your roofing contractor thoroughly:
- Ask family, friends and coworkers for recommendations for a roofing contractor.
- Check each bid for a complete price, full scope of work, and a list of materials in writing.
- Know your rights. A homeowner has 72 hour right of rescission/cancellation period in most states.
- Always get at least 5 references from your contractor.
- Don’t sign anything until you are ready to. This means not falling prey to sales tactics like discounts if you sign now.
- Check in with the Colorado Secretary of State online business search for the contractors.
- Don’t sign a contract that has blank spaces. Make sure it is complete.
- As to see building permits and inspection reports.
- Do not pre-pay for anything.
- Get copies of the Workman’s Comp and General Liability Insurance. Before work starts.
- Call your insurance company first to file a claim. It’s solely the insurance adjuster’s job to assess the damage to your roof. It’s the homeowner’s job to choose the roofing contractor.
- Don’t rush just to get work done. Be patient and make sure the job is done right.
- Never turn over the insurance checks you receive or pay any money until the job is complete.
